Teacup Chihuahua
There are many dog breeders out there, most especially Chihuahua breeders, who would object to the term of teacup Chihuahua. This is for the very reason that there really is no such thing as a teacup Chihuahua, at least not a separate breed.
There can be even smaller versions of the Chihuahua that might very well fit the various descriptions of tiny, toy, miniature or teacup Chihuahua. Chihuahua’s being small by nature however some people capitalize on this fact, especially when there is an especially small puppy in a litter, to label it as a teacup Chihuahua or a toy Chihuahua or a miniature Chihuahua to sell it for a higher price.
Unsuspecting people who are looking for a Chihuahua puppy as a pet will most likely be taken in by such ill-used words as toy or teacup Chihuahua, and buy the Chihuahua for more than they should. Prospective Chihuahua owners should do their homework and find out all there is to know about Chihuahua’s before they start to look around.
If on the other hand, you know a thing or two about dogs and Chihuahua’s in general, and you’re looking especially for a smaller “teacup Chihuahua” then the label shouldn’t be a problem for you, as long as you know what you’re getting.
A Chihuahua, is a Chihuahua, is a Chihuahua, and whether it has been labeled as a teacup Chihuahua or not, it will still have the same characteristics. How it was bred, whether it is a purebred, and the size of it do come into the equation, but not all the time, and not all at once.
For one thing, if you’re getting your Chihuahua from a reputable Chihuahua breeder, then you will not have to worry about haggling the price down to something manageable just because you were told that you were getting a teacup Chihuahua.
Going through a reputable breeder also means that you have less to worry on the conditions of how the Chihuahua puppy was bred, and what illnesses or genetic diseases it might have. The Chihuahua breeder will have all the information that you need.
You will also find that going through a reputable Chihuahua breeder also has better advantages than just those mentioned. For instance you will also be able to get the advice necessary on how to properly raise your Chihuahua, and if you have a small “teacup Chihuahua” then you can also get help and advice on how to handle this seemingly fragile little dog.
And as long as you know that your teacup Chihuahua is not a different breed of Chihuahua but only a smaller version, you (and your Chihuahua) will get along famously.
